Light the Way

there is a crack in time
that opens to the softest heart
you can feel into it like a midwife gently probing
for the hidden pulse

their eyes do not even know what they search for
touching them, they may not respond
the truth is hidden from them
yet every cell calls out for union

their light has fallen into cracks of doubt
been covered over by mists of forgetting
it does not matter why or when
it’s right there, humming under the surface
always and already singing

do not be so quick of mind
to miss the gossamer calling
averted gazes may yet just be
the loudest invitation you see

let your heart be pulled through the opening
it knows the way
your presence is the only gift you need
to light the spark

the light is the truth of what we feel
when all barriers have been removed
cast the yoke into the fire
melt the iron bars
take off the mask and stand revealed
in the heart’s simple sanity

can it all be so basic as this?
we spin out myriad fantasies
and stumble with Hercules’s next labor
yet at the end of it all
our deepest fulfillment comes from
simply touching the ground
holding a hand
meeting a gaze
giving our understanding

slow down and feel the spinning of the earth
pulling you into her sweet embrace
stop protecting yourself from the grand design
you can only dance with it
when you see you have never been apart

stop running, stop fretting altogether
trust this moment has all the answers
lay your body back into the fountain
and feel the life pouring from your chest

no activity will get you there
you have to give up trying
don’t cover it over with thoughts
stand between the pillars of being and not-being
and let the lightning sizzle

then, open the eyes of your heart
and dare to see everything that is
feel the wings of awakening
in every single moment
be life’s gift that opens the way
back to heaven-right-here
it’s who you already are

do you hear love’s latest calling?
it’s the world quivering just before birth
stand under the pain and the joy
and light the way to the open gate
